BAU: The construction of a border control post between Malaysia and West Kalimantan, Indonesia around Kampung Stass is in the pipeline under Phase 2 of the Greater Kuching Development Agency (GKCDA) project.

Deputy Transport (Riverine and Marine) Minister Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the effort will be carried out following the completion of the Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (CIQS) complex in Serikin.

“Previously, RM2 million under GKCDA Phase 1 was allocated to build the Stass border control post, but it could not be implemented after the Public Works Department (JKR) calculated that the allocation was only sufficient for road construction,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking at the Family Day Celebration and 5th Anniversary of Kampung Krawong Stass here on Wednesday (Apr 10).

The Tasik Biru assemblyman assured that funding for the construction of the border control post, a crucial entry point to the Bau District, will see an increase in the upcoming phase.

“Our primary focus is currently on completing the CIQS Serikin project. Once the project is finalised, we will then proceed with the construction of the Stass border control post,” he added.

He also mentioned that steps to mitigate the recurring flooding issues in Kampung Stass have commenced this year.

“The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) is spearheading these efforts with a GKCDA allocation of RM600,000,” he explained.

Speaking at the same event, he also approved funding to improve the Kampung Krawong Stass Community Hall with an allocation of RM100,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for 2025 and an additional RM10,000 under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) for 2024.
