KUCHING: A 22-year-old man was fined RM1,500, in default one month’s imprisonment, by the Magistrates’ Court here on Tuesday (June 28) for punching another man.
Wan Abdul Rahman pleaded guilty to the charge read out by an interpreter before magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
He was alleged to have intentionally injure a man, also 22, at Kampung Semariang Pinggir here at about 11pm, on May 31.
Under Section 323 of the Penal Code, if convicted, the accused is looking at up to one year in prison or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both.
According to the case brief, the victim and his friend met with a man on the night of the incident to resolve a misunderstanding regarding comments posted on Facebook.
During the discussion, the accused suddenly punched the victim in the face and abdomen. The victim then lodged a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused on June 1.
