MIRI: Police have initiated a manhunt for two individuals suspected of stealing a metal gate from a house at Sealine residential area in Lutong recently.

According to Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the police received a report from the housing contractor at 11.48am on February 29.

The complainant reported that unknown individuals have stolen one of the house’s metal gates and a one-minute video clip of the incident that was captured by a neighbour’s CCTV had gone viral on social media.

“Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, we found that two individuals have lifted the metal gate off from the house compound and placed it atop a silver Perodua Myvi before driving away.

“Following that, we have opened an investigation paper under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

“The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has launched an operation codenamed ‘Ops Kesan’ to track down the suspects,” he said.

Alexson also urged the public not to speculate on the incident as it could interfere with ongoing investigations.
