KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is advocating for corporate digital responsibility (CDR) to be included in corporate practices and operating models among government linked corporations (GLCs) and statutory bodies.

He pointed out that the CDR is in alignment with Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

He explained that CDR would expedite Sarawak’s levels of sustainability and integrity by utilising data in ethnical manner to increase productivity, build customer trust as well as design high value products, services, and experiences.

He noted that during the second German-Baltic Digital Summit held in Munich, Germany in October last year, the term CDR was a key focal area of discussion among the corporate global community.

The CDR is termed as a set of shared values and norms guiding an organisation’s operations with respect to the creation and operations of digital technology and data.

“CDR means active involvement in shaping the digital transactions and operations on the basis of ethical principles. For instance, companies need to commit to enabling digital self-determination, setting clearly defined limits on data use, and providing customers with comprehensive and transparent information on the scope, intent and purpose of their data gathering.

“Against the backdrop of digital transformation, our regulatory frame works need to be in place within our organisations to ensure financial integrity and protect consumers while still supporting corporate efficiency and innovation. Especially since the CDR also addresses the aspect of threats to cybersecurity, an issue that is becoming increasingly important, given that almost all essential public services and private information are now online,” he said.

He said this in a speech at the closing ceremony of Digital Leadership Forum at Khazanah Auditorium Asia School of Business in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (March 9).

His text of speech was read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Abang Johari stated that the CDR will enhance Sarawak’s ecological footprint of digitalisation and act as a safeguard to the state’s strategic assets, people, and conserve the environment.

“As such the digital transformations and initiatives need to be articulated responsibly across the financial, operating processes and          governance. This is simply because we cannot achieve the result and aspirations of the 21st century by using the 20th century approaches.

“A balance between innovation and financial compliance must be met to achieve our PCDS (2030) strategic goals from the context in the ease of doing business and making Sarawak an investment destination of choice”, he added.
