Council inks MoU with Unicef on child initiatives

MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Malaysia for the implementation of Child Friendly City Initiatives (CFCI).

During the signing ceremony, Mayor Adam Yii, thanked the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government for choosing MCC and four other major councils namely, Kuching South City Council, Sibu Municipal Council, Padawan Municipal Council and Samarahan Municipal Council in Sarawak to implement the Child Friendly City Initiatives.

MCC, he said, is of the opinion that CFCI is relevant to the council’s plans for the next five years and will complement its current initiatives to realise its vision of transforming the city into a ‘Vibrant, Green, Most Liveable Resort Smart City’.

“In view of this, MCC resolved to participate in CFCI as suggested by the ministry,Yii added.

The MoU was signed between Yii and Edgar Donoso from UNICEF Malaysia. It was witnessed by representatives from Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development, Deputy Mayor of Miri and MCC Acting Secretary, Abdul Rahman Taupek.
