Council meets target to complete projects

KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has successfully completed several projects under its jurisdiction for the year 2022-2023.

According to MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, some of the projects completed include repairing works at Taman Sahabat and Mayor Song Swee Guan Park in 2022; thermoplastic paint marking with the cost of RM962,548.49 and road resurfacing works with the cost of RM8,934,183 under the Malaysian Road Records Information (MARRIS) allocation, among others.

In terms of Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), he said six RTPs have been completed in 2022 with total expenditure of RM552,800.23 while last year saw one project completed and 12 others still under planning, costing RM1,490,000.

“We are showing this because this is our target to complete the projects.

“This is what we are going to show to the public and be transparent with them, so that they will not be misled,” he told a press conference on the MBKS 2022-2023 performance at its building here today.

For this year, he said the council will launch the MyKiosk, an initiative under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) with 30 kiosks placed in MBKS area costing RM445,000.

Other upcoming projects for this year include projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) costing RM57,420,000; 65 road resurfacing work projects worth RM16,000,000; 36 drain repair works costing RM11,585,000 and 20 drain repair and walkway works with fundings from KPKT worth RM4,740,000.

He added that other upgrading projects include Hui Sing Park, MBKS Stadium for the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) as well as the construction of the centre of gastronomy, which is currently in the tendering process.

He said efforts are also being intensified for international friendship cities and embark on more sustainable, healthy and smart city initiatives.
