KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will continue its ‘Ops Cabut’ following several public complaints received by the council.

The operation will be carried out continuously to remove and confiscate billboard advertisements installed without approval from the council.

“These advertisement signs are mostly erected along the main road and obstruct the view from intersections and traffic lights.

“The operation involves commercial areas in Taman Genesis, Taman Green Acers, along the road at Batu Kawa-Malihah traffic light and along the Malihah-Matang traffic light intersections.

“A total of 16 units of billboard advertisements without approval have been removed and confiscated during the ongoing operation,” it said in a Facebook post.

MPP said the act of erecting or displaying billboard advertisements in a Local Authority (PBT) area without a license issued by the PBT is an offence under the Local Authority Ordinance (Advertisement) By-Laws 2012 and offenders can be fined not exceeding RM5,000 and imprisonment not exceeding six months.

Any companies, business premises or individuals who wish to erect or display billboard advertisements are advised to apply for permission and obtain approval from the Council before erecting or displaying their advertising material to avoid legal action being taken against the advertising material and the owner of the advertisement material.
