SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has been urged to improve public access to the Sibu Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).

Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, said the route used by many at this time was not very orderly and even complicated.

He noted that visitors could take the lift to the 3rd floor to scan their MySejahtera then had to walk up to the UTC at the 4th floor.

“Why don’t the authorities station their officers or security at the 4th floor and remind people to check in by scanning their MySejahtera before entering UTC and making sure the elevator is working?

“The layout of the path to the UTC now is very complicated,” said the Bintulu MP.

He said the SMC should immediately rectify the situation and open the elevator to the 4th floor instead of continuing with the unreasonable arrangement.

“Many things can be resolved in an easy way but we do not know why the SMC chose to complicate the matter.

“Even earlier in the media they said that senior citizens and the disabled who need to go to UTC on the 4th floor can ask for the help of security guards.

“What are they talking about? There is a well -functioning elevator leading to the 4th floor but now people have to suffocate before reaching UTC,” said the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president.

According to him, due to this situation, some people have mistakenly assumed that the elevator did not function.

“I really hope SMC will listen carefully to the public’s feedback when faced with such issues,” said the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China.
