MIRI: A fire fighter attached to Batu Niah fire station was killed on early this morning (Aug 28) at Pujut 7 traffic intersection, after his Proton Waja collided with a lorry.
According to state traffic police chief Superintendent Alexson Naga Chabu, the victim was identified as Mohd Azwanizam Abdullah, aged 42.
“He was killed on the spot while his friend, 43, who sat at the front seat of the car suffered bodily injuries and the another friend, aged 19, at the back seat was unharmed,” said Naga.
He said preliminary investigations showed the lorry was heading towards the city centre from Lutong, while the Proton Waja was coming from Permyjaya to Piasau when the accident occurred at 4.30am.
The lorry driver was reportedly unharmed in the incident.
He pointed out the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
