DEBAK: The hard work of past leaders, especially in Betong Division, has inspired the present elected representatives to continue bringing development based on what has been planned.
Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat Vincent Entering, however, acknowledged that the past leaders could implement development projects only with the strong support of the people.

“Starting with the upgrading of Betong from a district to division, everything has changed and most notable is the development of education. There are now various types and levels of educational institutions.

“This proves that our leaders are very concerned about education, especially in rural areas. We should be grateful to them,” he said.

Chuat was speaking at the opening of the 2019 Gawai Raya Saribas-level celebration at the Riveria Sport Centre yesterday.

“We will continue to work on developing Betong division, particularly Saribas,” he said.

Chuat added that the wisdom of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to explore new sources of income for Sarawak had enabled the GPS-led state government to pursue various development projects needed for the convenience and comfort of its people.

Chuat also complimented the open house concept of the  Gawai Raya Saribas-level celebration which aimed to foster friendships.

“In Sarawak, the Gawai Raya celebration is synonymous with visiting family members, relatives, neighbours and friends.

“We are grateful for the close ties among the multi-racial community which ensure the success of Sarawak’s future,” he said.
