MIRI: Foundation and diploma students of Curtin University Malaysia were recently introduced to financial literacy by Prudential Assurance.

The talk, delivered by Dex Yong from Prudential Assurance, was designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to manage their personal finances and make informed decisions about money.

In his talk, Yong gave the students real-world examples of how financial literacy can impact their lives, covering a range of topics, including budgeting, saving, investing, and understanding credit.

The students also learned about financial products such as bank accounts, credit cards, and loans, and how to use them responsibly.

According to lecturer, Michelle Phua, financial literacy is an essential skill for students to learn as they prepare for university and beyond.

She said that many students might not have had much exposure to financial concepts and might not understand the consequences of poor financial decisions.

In this respect she said the talk was very well received by the participating students with many saying they felt more confident about managing their personal finances.

“As financial literacy becomes an increasingly important issue in our society, guest talks like this can help to ensure that our students are well-equipped to make informed decisions about money,” said Phua.
