BINTULU: The Customs Department confiscated 222,600 sticks of cigarettes and 9,178 litres of beer valued at RM88,502 with unpaid duties at RM449,504.23 during a raid here on Saturday.

Customs officers together with officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), raided a premises at Parkcity Commerce Square in Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi here following a tip-off.

Upon arriving at the scene, the team had to force open the premises’ door as it was locked.

However, no arrests were made as none of the workers were present.

The team found the contrabands on the premises after further inspection, said state Customs director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for possession of goods not approved by the Customs Department.
