KUCHING: Come Saturday, 9th September 2017, people from all walks of life will gather at St. Joseph’s Cathedral to participate in the ‘I run for the least, the lost and the last amongst us’.

His Grace Archbishop Simon Poh will flag off the 8-km run at 6.30am and the 3-km run at 7.00am.

The Charity Run is organised by the Catholic Welfare Services Council Sarawak (CWS) with kind support from the City Joggers Club (CJC).

The objectives of the Run are to raise fund for the poor and needy and to raise awareness and inculcate the spirit of fellowship as well as charity among our fellowmen.

“Our hope is that in pursuit of material gains we do not forget those left behind. Inequality will result in instability in our society. It is therefore important that those who succeed are aware of the negative effects of this and do their part to give back to society,” said a spokesman through a press statement yesterday.

Money raised from the run will provide assistance to poor families, the elderly, educational assistance for poor students, freshly cooked free or subsidized meals for the poor in and around Kuching and rural parishes among others.

“It is heartening to see many people of different faith and occupation chipping in to donate towards this noble cause where we can make sharing with the poor and needy part of our lives,” added the spokesman.

The programme for the morning will start with Holy Mass to be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Albert Jacobse in the Day Chapel of St. Joseph’s Cathedral at 5.30am. This will be followed by a ‘Zumba’ warm-up exercise at 6.15am followed by flag off.

Participants are requested to avoid parking on the route’s roadside and to follow instructions of parking wardens.

Food trucks and the Catholic Services Centre Kitchen will be on site to sell food and drinks after the Run. The St Joseph’s Secondary School band which has performed internationally will liven up the event with entertainment which is probably a first for any charity run.
