KUCHING: Dalat district is on the threshold of transformation, poised to captivate tourists and empower its local economy with developments.

Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the district is set to become a hotspot for domestic tourists in the Mukah Division.

“Significant construction projects are underway to enhance the district’s appeal. The newly introduced Dalat Tourism Trail, tracing the picturesque Oya River – Dalat River route, boasts a wealth of attractions, including the Melanau Heritage Gallery, Oya Square, Oya Walk, Mee Udang Stalls, Saturday Market Oya, Kampung Teh Tebaloi Center, Tapou Village Craft Workshop, Dalat Waterfront, Solidarity Park, BazaarNita, and Sagu Pottery in Medong Village,” she said during a press conference, following a meeting at her office here yesterday

Spearheaded by the Land and Development Authority (LCDA) in collaboration with the private sector’s Tecktonic & Sons Group, a hotel is currently in the works.

“This boutique hotel will be six storeys high and house 35 rooms, along with a banquet hall capable of hosting 200 people,” she added.

“Dalat Boutique Hotel, officially christened as ‘Roxy Hotel’, will feature a Le Papa supermarket within its premises,” she said.

She said a dedicated floor will be reserved for commercial spaces.

Building and asset disposal are scheduled for October, with the groundbreaking ceremony set for Nov 25, officiated by the Premier of Sarawak.

In tandem with this development, the proposed Oya Commercial Centre, also under the LCDA’s jurisdiction, is making headway.

She stressed that the project was approved under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) with a budget of RM9.3 million and is currently in the design proposal phase.

It includes an array of cottage shops and shop-offices, promising economic opportunities for the region.

She also said that the ongoing project includes the Institution of Centre of Excellence (CENTEXS) Dalat Campus, Integrated Administration Centre (IAC), Dalat Entrepreneurial Center, and the Sago & Nipah Development Board Complex (SNDB).

According to Fatimah, one of the district’s standout events, the Pesta Besaug (Regatta), is gearing up for its 6th edition, promising a vibrant celebration of culture and tradition.
