KUCHING: State Health Department and Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) yesterday instructed Darul Hana Mosque to close effective immediately in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A notice issued by Darul Hana mosque’s management committee yesterday said the closure would allow sanitisation work to be carried out after it was found that some of the worshippers had attended a ‘tabligh’ gathering at Sri Petaling mosque in Kuala Lumpur.

“Darul Hana Mosque is closed until further notice. The management committee will update the worshippers on the information regarding the case from time to time,” the notice stated.

Last Sunday, the number of Covid-19 cases jumped from 158 on Thursday to 428 cases when 190 new infected cases were found among the Sri Petaling mosque 16,000 attendees.

Following this, the State Disaster Management Committee reported that Sarawak’s six new cases from that cluster.

Those who attended the gathering between Feb 27 and Mar 1 are urged to immediately report to the Health Department to test for Covid-19.

Over the last three days, Sarawak has recorded 34 positive cases, of which 29 are “imported” cases.

As such, the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday announced the 14-day Stay Home Notice (SHN) effective March 18 affecting all visitors entering Sarawak, including Sarawakian themselves.
