The majestic Sarawak flag, adorned with yellow, red, black, and a star, proudly flutters atop a flagpole taller than the iconic 95-meter Jalur Gemilang flagpole at Dataran Merdeka. Situated adjacent to the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building, on the opposite side of Waterfront Kuching, it symbolizes the harmonious coexistence of Sarawak's diverse, multi-ethnic and multi-religious population. KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has denied claims that the Sarawak flag, which is flying from the RM30 million flagpole near Fort Margherita, has been damaged and torn.

In response to these claims, DBKU director Mohamed Khaidir Abang said that DBKU officials visited the flagpole to inspect its condition.

He clarified that the flag was actually wet, which caused it to fold and give the appearance of being damaged and torn.

Mohamed further explained that the Sarawak flagpole was installed for a trial period of one month.

This trial period, he said, was meant to determine the direction and changes of the wind, whether the flag could be raised using the mechanical system, the suitability of the flag materials, and other relevant factors.
