KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has decided to deploy a new machine to keep the Kuching Waterfront clean.
Deputy Minister for Utilities and Communications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi unveiled the Glutton Litter Picker Machine on today.

Duroman (M) Sdn Bhd handed over the machines to DBKU.

“These machines will help ease cleaning work at DBKU’s area including the public parks here and around the Kuching Waterfront.

“The waterfront has been a landmark for over 30 years and it has always been a must-visit tourist spot in Sarawak.

“A clean, safe and conducive environment will definitely increase visitors’ interest to come to Kuching and it will in turn further strengthen the confidence of foreign investors to invest in the state, especially in Kuching,” he said.

He said each machine would be able to replace three to five workers who previously needed to manually clean up the area.

“This will in turn save the cost of cleaning operations in the long run. With this machine, cleaning work such as sweeping fallen leaves around the public area such as Kuching Waterfront will be faster and more efficient.

“Another advantage of this machine is that it is very fast so it is suitable to be used during public events to ensure the area can be cleaned at all times.

“It will also impact the life of the citizens as we will be having a clean, attractive and sustainable city environment,” he added.

He explained that DBKU is committed to ensure the Sarawak government’s efforts to improve places around the southern and northern areas can be enhanced.

“Ever since the waterfront was built, many more developments have been carried out on the other side of the riverbank such as cafes, flag poles and so forth.

“We express our gratitude to the Sarawak government for its continuous efforts to improve the look of Kuching City, especially the waterfront,” he added.

Among those present were DBKU director Mohamed Khaidir Abang and Duroman (M) Sdn Bhd marketing manager cum consultant Kapt. (B) Azman Shah Sulaiman.
