KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Mayor Hilmi Othman said it is committed to strengthening cooperation especially in the efficient planning and implementation of community development programmes to empower the local community.
“The success of community development relies heavily on members of the community, including community leaders, village chiefs, headmen, clan leaders, Friendly Neighbourhood (Kejiranan Mesra or KJM), Neighbourhood Watch Committee (KRT) representatives and Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) members.
“Therefore, your roles and functions have been highly relevant up to this day as the eyes and ears and the bridge between the government and the grassroots,”said Hilmi at a hi-tea gathering here today.
He said community leaders play an effective role in improving the quality of life and well-being of the local community.
“This is what I mean by community development, where we want the Kuching city community to actively support local development efforts in line with DBKU’s goal of creating a competitive and advanced community in all aspects of life,”he said.
He said all of this requires a high level of understanding and awareness among the city’s residents and all parties involved in DBKU’s efforts to develop the community.
Apart from that he said he will organise more meetings, courses, activities, events,in order to provide a better understanding, generate ideas, and facilitate proactive and effective community development planning.
He added that a strong teamwork spirit among leaders and the people they lead, as well as the support from various other parties will contribute to success.
“I hope all of you will continue to enhance your skills and knowledge extensively and consistently to strengthen your abilities and competence as leaders and administrators at the most fundamental level,”he said.
