SIBU: Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Alice Lau took time out from her busy schedule to take part in a road safety advocacy campaign at the bus terminal here on Saturday (May 27).

The campaign is being held from May 29 to June 4 in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak festive season.

She was joined by Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak director Norizan Jili, JPJ Sibu chief Mohamad Faizal David Jemat and JPJ Sibu enforcement branch chief Nurul Fairezzah Safri.

Also present was National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA) Sibu chief Azimah Marsid and her officers.

During the campaign, Lau who is also Lanang MP, distributed some goodie bags to bus drivers and food delivery riders as well as monitored the condition of express buses.

The week-long JPJ operation is aimed at reducing accident rates during the festive season and create public awareness on the importance of road safety.

Aside from that, the department will also conduct inspections at bus terminals and depots throughout Sarawak to ensure buses are in a state of roadworthiness and safe for passengers.
