MARUDI: A local detainee was pronounced dead while receiving medical treatment at Beluru health clinic on Monday (July 31).
Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) director Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad said the 50-year-old man was arrested under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
“While en route to Marudi police headquarters (IPD), the detainee complained of chest pain and breathing difficulties and he was immediately taken to Beluru Health Clinic for treatment.
“At around 10.30 pm the same day, he was confirmed dead by a medical assistant,” he said in a statement.
Azri said an autopsy will be performed at the Miri Hospital tomorrow (Aug 3) to determine the exact cause of his death.
The JIPS Criminal Investigation Unit for Deaths in Custody will investigate the case.
