KUCHING: Sri Aman MP Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie will be taking up the cause of veteran servicemen with a view to get them more financial support.

She plans to bring up the possibility of raising the allowances of Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) recipients and Iban trackers with the Ministry of Defence and also in parliament.

“The issue of pension and the PJM allowance of RM500 shall be brought up,” said, adding, “I can’t promise the outcome but I will be sure to bring this issue forward.”

She gave the undertaking after Army Veteran Association president Lt Kol Mohd Melintang Abdullah had asked her to raise the matter at the association’s general meeting here on yesterday (Feb 4).

Meanwhile, Doris added that the association should continue its efforts to organise more events and activities to create awareness on the Sarawak Rangers.

During the event, the association presented two books to her, namely ‘Iban Trackers and Sarawak Rangers’ and ‘Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban’ and she urged the association to publish more books related to the Sarawak Rangers.

“Publish more books, we need to open the eyes and ears of the public regarding the Iban trackers and Sarawak Rangers.

“This would allow more people to be more patriotic and appreciate the sacrifices made by the Iban trackers and Sarawak Rangers,” she said.

Also present at the event was Army Veteran Association adviser, Lieutenant General Datuk Stephen Mundaw.
