KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian welcomes the endorsement of the Special Council on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MKMA63) to restore 35 per cent parliamentary seats for East Malaysia.

He said this is part of the follow through of the MA63 and Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report being annexed in the Malaysian constitution tabled by de-facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in Parliament last year.

“People of Sarawak would like us to restore all our rights under the spirit of MA63 and IGC that have been eroded over the years.

“We have much more to do such as health and education autonomy,” he said in a statement.

Dr Sim, who is also the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president thus conveyed his appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri and the Federal Cabinet for willing to make progress on returning the state’s right.

“This is a subject that I had spoken in Senate of Parliament Malaysia in 2017 and 2018 and it is finally coming through.

“It is to safeguard for changes of Federal Constitution by West Malaysia parties against Sabah and Sarawak interest forever,” said Dr Sim.
