SRI AMAN: Police have issued a traffic summons against a local driver for endangering the lives of road users due to her dangerous overtaking along KM3, Jalan Sri Aman last Wednesday (Apr 3).
The incident had gained widespread attention when a dashcam footage, depicting the reckless act, went viral on Facebook.
In the clip, it showed the Perodua Axia nearly causing an accident where she overtook a pick-up truck on the opposite lane and nearly collided with an oncoming sport utility vehicle (SUV).
According to the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the viral video attracted negative comments and netizens were condemning the driver’s actions as jeopardising the safety of other road users.
Following that, the Sri Aman traffic police managed to identify the driver and summoned her to assist in the investigation.
On Friday (Apr 5), the driver appeared at the traffic police office to own up to her action. Admitting her wrongdoing, the driver acknowledged her reckless driving which flouted the traffic regulations.
Following that, the police issued a summons against her for overtaking dangerously under Rule 6(1) of the Traffic Rules 166/59.
