KUCHING: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang has reminded road users to slow down their vehicles and prioritise the safety of other users.

He made the reminder when referring to the issue of vehicles speeding along Jalan Puncak Borneo which is just outside of the newly constructed car park in front of the Rajah Charles Brooke Memorial Hospital.

“Even as we were standing at the newly constructed car park which was a project initiated by the Heritage Society of RCBM Hospital (HSoRCBMH) with the support from me and Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak, cars and heavy vehicles are observed to be driven at such an alarming speed especially those who are coming down the slope from Kuching direction towards Puncak Borneo,” he said.

Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman, added that PWD has kindly placed a zebra crossing to facilitate pedestrians who have parked their vehicles at the new Heritage Society of RCBM Hospital car park, and speeding along this road is a life threat to them.

“This hinders the view of drivers who are exiting the RCBM Hospital and countless accidents have occurred there due to this irresponsible behaviour,” he said in a statement today.

In the meantime, president of HSoRCBMH Angelina Jong reminded the public that the new Heritage Society of RCBM Hospital car park is only accessible for drivers coming down to RCBM Hospital from Kuching’s direction.

“Drivers coming from the Puncak Borneo direction are not allowed to turn right into the car park as there is a double line there and doing this would pose a danger for those who are driving down the slope from Kuching,” she said.

She also hopes that the public can be more civic-minded and responsible towards keeping that place clean for everyone to use.

“There are no specific funds for them to clean and maintain that car park and it is their only wish that the public will be able to help them in managing the place well,” she added.
