KUCHING: Police seized methamphetamine drugs worth some RM10,000 from a drug trafficker during a routine traffic enforcement patrol at Jalan Wan Alwi here on Tuesday.

Kuching district acting police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said a 39-year-old local man was stopped during the patrol after the police noticed the suspect riding his motorcycle in a suspicious manner.

“Upon inspection, police found the drugs weighing 102.10g worth about RM10,000 inside the suspect’s pocket. He was subsequently arrested and the drugs as well as his motorcycle were seized,” Merbin said yesterday.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence by hanging.

Merbin added that the suspect’s urine test result was positive for methamphetamine. The suspect also had two previous offences for drug activities under Sections 12 (2) and 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“As a result of preliminary investigation, it was found that the suspect obtained the drugs through ‘bank-in’ from a local dealer. Police are tracking down the distributor,” he added.
