KUCHING: The recently proposed dual carriageway to connect Serian with Gedong, Samarahan, Asajaya and Sebuyau is an important link to transform the areas into food baskets.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said essential infrastructure such as roads and bridges would support the state’s efforts to modernise its agriculture sector.

“It is only about seven kilometres, so we are going to build a dual-carriageway there. We might also equip it with the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system,” he said.

“In the current planning, the ART has two lines; one ends in Serian while another one in Kampung Rembus, Kota Samarahan,” he told reporters officiating at the National Anti-Drug Day and the Keluarga Malaysia Direct From Farm Sale Programme in Gedong here today.

“So, when I looked at it (the plan), Gedong seems to be the ‘missing link’ between the two lines – thus, we are looking into having the ART pass through Gedong as well,” he added.
