KUCHING: The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting on the Jepak by-election on Sept 25.
The meeting is being held after the EC received an official notification today from State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar on the unexpected vacancy.
“In accordance with Article 21(5) of the Sarawak Constitution, the vacancy of Jepak must be filled within 60 days from the date that the EC confirmed its vacancy.
“With that, we will hold a special by-election meeting on Jepak next Monday and it will be chaired by EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh.
“Important dates such as the date of the election writ, candidate nomination day, voting day, and other preparations for the by-election will be discussed during the meeting,” EC said in a statement today.
