SELANGAU: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas put in a few good words for Edwin Banta as he campaigned for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate in Selangau.

He said voters of this parliamentary constituency will be the real winners if they vote for Edwin in the general election (GE15).

“Edwin Banta is good-hearted. Most importantly, he has plans to pull Selangau out of its current “lidah tanah” (less progressive) image,” he said during a meet-the-people session at Rh. Sigan in Ulu Sungai Arip, here on Sunday (Nov 13).

Uggah, who was present to drum up support for the candidate, said Edwin had promised to take care of everyone if he wins, irrespective of race, religion, and political affiliation.

“Edwin has his own business plans as well to organise impactful socio-economic activities aimed at generating income.

“He believes, for example, that Selangau has a future in commercial coffee production besides oil palm.

“He deserves everyone’s full support for his vision, his political beliefs, and his commitment to serve,” said Uggah, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president and the GPS election director for GE15.

He said Edwin too has often emphasised that although he is from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), he is a GPS candidate.

Uggah reminded the dwellers of their miseries for electing the wrong candidate in the 2018 general election.

“You had been left alone in the past five years in the wilderness, devoid of development projects and plans and little engagement with him.

“Now is the most opportune time to change for the better. Do not repeat the mistake of voting for the opposition again.

“The two opposition candidates here do not have any plan or programme to benefit you. One of them is churning out a lot of lies and accusations to demonise GPS,” he added.

On the same note, he asserted that all GPS candidates had been carefully checked and screened in the selection process.

“We want to have the best candidates, the winnable ones to represent us,” Uggah said.

Meanwhile, Edwin said he is very happy with the cooperation given by PBB.

“The election is a very important process for everyone in Selangau. We had been left in the lurch for five years. It is time to make amends.

“And as I have said many times, I am from PRS, but I am a GPS candidate. My victory will be a GPS victory, as I fully subscribe to the coalition under Premier Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s struggle for Sarawak and to protect its rights,” said Edwin.
