Foreigner dies in pick-up truck crash

MIRI: A plantation security guard has succumbed to his injuries following a pick-up truck crash near Simpang Ngu, Niah last Tuesday.

The 32-year-old foreigner was pronounced dead at around 5.50 pm while receiving treatment at Miri Hospital on Wednesday.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said prior to the 9 pm accident, a pick-up truck driven by a 41-year-old man with the victim on board, was travelling towards Simpang Nga.

“While enroute, the vehicle suddenly skidded and crashed into concrete barriers placed on the left side of the road.

“Due to the impact, the victim who was seated in the back bucket, was thrown out of the vehicle and he sustained severe head injuries,” he said.

Meanwhile, the driver did not suffer any injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
