KANOWIT: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched to locate an elderly man reported missing after he allegedly fell into Sungai Kanowit yesterday (Oct 15).
The victim is identified as Tinggi Melintang, 92.
According to reports from witnesses, the victim had gone to a farm across Sungai Kanowit using a boat.
Later at 6pm, Tinggi is said to have fallen into the river while he was on his way back to his longhouse.
Firemen from Kanowit station were then deployed to the scene at Nanga Lesih, Rh Jelani in Bukong Jagoi after receiving an emergency call around 6.35pm.
On arrival, the team carried out an initial search with the villagers using two boats but, to no avail.
The search operation continues today (Oct 16) and at the time of writing, Tinggi is yet to be found.
