KANOWIT: An elderly man lost his life when a tree toppled onto him at Pantu Mali, Jalan Lukut Penyulau here today (Aug 15).
The victim, identified as Wong Sieh Ming, 59, was reportedly engaged in tree-cutting activities on a farm when the unfortunate incident occurred.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department, teams of firefighters from Kanowit station swiftly responded to the emergency, accompanied by paramedics, following a distress call received around 12 pm.
Local residents had managed to move the unconscious victim to an open area before the rescue team’s arrival.
Upon reaching the scene, the rescue team examined the victim’s condition and confirmed his demise at the location.
His body was later handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The operation was concluded by 1.30 pm.
