KUCHING: Police arrested two local men for allegedly stealing electricity cables along Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho on Tuesday.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah in a statement yesterday, said the incident was realised by a technician from Sarawak Energy Berhad who was carrying out inspections at Lorong 2L SL 5 after receiving public complaints regarding electricity disruptions in the area.

Acting on the complaints, police managed to arrest two suspects aged 27 and 34 around Tabuan Dusun area.

Also seized were some cables and equipment used to steal electricity cables.

Background checks found that both suspects have five prior records related to theft and trespassing.

“Both suspects are now remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for three days until Jan 20 for further investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, which provides for a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both,” he said.

Ahsmon reminded the public to continue channel any information regarding any crime activities to the police.
