KUCHING: Electrocution victims Simon Senin, 46, and Ronwina Mambai, 35, who died on March 10 were laid to rest on Sunday (March 13) at Shah Alam, Selangor.

Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said the decision to bury them there after Damian was found positive for COVID-19, while his wife was a close contact.

“In the beginning, we did intend to wait for their remains to be brought back to Kuching.

“However, a decision was made that they should be buried in Shah Alam, so we abide by the decision,” he said when met by reporters at the Kuching International Airport, today.

He was sympathetic about the deceased’s three children, namely Elisa Olivia Damian, 10; Joseph Rayyan Damian, 8; and Magdalena Damian, 2.

On March 10, Damian and Ronwina were found dead in a bathroom of the flat they were staying in at Taman Tringkap, Brinchang in Cameron Highlands.

Emergency personnel found burn marks on the woman’s hand, believed to have been electrocuted when she went to help her husband, who was showering using a water heater at the time.

Simon expressed concern that the children would not be able to visit their parent’s grave very often as they grow up.

“My concern is, as they grow up, they will not be able to visit their parent’s grave often and need to travel which will cost a lot of money.

“I hope they will grow up and become successful one day and be able to do so,” he said.

Saying his party will also provide continuous assistance to the children, he was also glad to see various quarters and organisations stepping up to contribute to the children.

“I am also thankful to the Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Senior Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof and individuals, as well as organisations like Rumah Sarawak in Kuala Lumpur and the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) for taking care of the children,” he added.
