Emergency relief activated for landslide victims

BINTULU: Three families from Kampung Dayak Sungai Plan have sought refuge at a temporary relief centre (PPS) in Kidurong Sports Centre, following a landslide incident on Thursday night.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) secretariat, the relief centre was activated at 2 pm today (Nov 24).

The relief centre currently houses 12 individuals from three families.

On Thursday, residents of Kampung Dayak Sungai Plan, Jalan Tanjung Kidurong, feared for their safety following a landslide behind their house.

Responding promptly to an emergency call, a team from Bintulu Civil Defence Force (APM) rushed to the scene and confirmed the collapse that affected the kitchen and toilet areas.

Initial reports suggested that the landslide, triggered by heavy downpour around 7.30 pm, prompted residents to contact authorities at 8 pm out of concern for their safety.
