BALINGIAN: The Community Policing Programme will help to instil the spirit of joint ownership within the community in dealing with crimes in their respective areas.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) play an important role in ensuring the development and harmony in their respective villages and longhouses.

“It can help to educate the community to be able to implement preparedness measures to prepare for and reduce the effects of threats and disasters before the arrival of authorities,” he said.

He said this when officiating at a Community Policing Workshop Programme held at Balingian Community Hall here recently.

He also said the programme is timely as the nation is fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Every community leader and village chief including JKKK members should monitor their respective areas so that the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the government to curb the spread of the virus can be complied with,” he added.
