MIRI: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has emphasised that continuity within Saberkas’ leadership was crucial in order for the youth organisation to stay relevant and strong.

“Saberkas has been formed for more than 40 years, we must stay relevant to deliver our mission to empower our youths for the future,” he said during a programme hosted by Saberkas Piasau at a hotel here on Sunday.

Abang Johari pointed out that as a platform that nurtures Sarawakians for the future, Saberkas needed to keep abreast with technological changes.

Meanwhile, to the younger leaders within Saberkas, Abang Johari who stepped down as its president on Saturday, reminded them to be always fair and not to follow emotions when executing decisions.

“Do not lead by your feelings, please take care of Saberkas (Jaga lah Saberkas baik-baik),” he exhorted.

He added that leadership was not a magical gift, but a set of skills that they could acquire and practise.

“During Saberkas’ 16 triennial general meeting on Saturday, I envisioned what our state is going to be like in 2030 and the challenges ahead for our young generation beyond 2050…we must get ready and adapt with the change,” he said.
