SERIAN: The axe has come down on the contractor assigned to upgrade Jalan Tan Sri Abang Ikhwan here for failing to complete the job after two years.

The termination will be put into effect by the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) which will appoint a new contractor to finish the work to upgrade the 1.7km stretch from two lanes to a four-lane facility.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Syed Aman Ghazali who revealed this to the media here today (Feb 1) said a new contractor would be appointed soon.

“DBKU has informed me that they will terminate the contractor working on Jalan Tan Sri Abang Ikhwan and appoint a new contractor soon to finish the job.

“The work has not been completed after two years,” said Sharifah Hasidah, who is also Samariang assemblywoman.

She expressed confidence that work will resume in March once a new contractor has been appointed.
