KUCHING: Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has called on the people to support Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg so that Sarawak can become a developed state by 2030.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) described Abang Johari’s leadership as extraordinary especially in terms of his planning for Sarawak.
“We in Sarawak have the same stance – that we do not want a party from outside Sarawak to govern the state because they do not understand the local situation,” he said during a meet-the-people session at Penview Convention Centre (PCC) here on Saturday (Nov 6).
“If we look at it in terms of the planning by our chief minister, I view it as very comprehensive planning,” he commended.
He said while there had previously been plans to develop the rural areas, it was only when Abang Johari became the chief minister that strategic rural development planning was implemented.
He mentioned the Sarawak Water Supply Grid as an example, pointing out that many communities residing along the coast faced the issue of water scarcity especially during drought season.
Wan Junaidi, who is Santubong MP, said the chief minister had also actively strived to develop roads and bridges especially in the rural areas.
“Through such efforts, road infrastructure will be enhanced in the rural regions, servicing the Orang Ulu, Ibans, and other communities in the interior,” he said.
He said Abang Johari had also driven the implementation of the digital economy so that everyone would have access to modern technology.
With all this in mind, he lauded the chief minister in terms of his ability, thinking, and use of resources available in the state in order to effectively develop Sarawak.
