MIRI: Datuk Lee Kim Shin has assured that all workers related to the Industri 121 Kuala Baram Covid-19 cluster are confined to their quarters.

A plywood factory in Kuala Baram here, which failed to comply with movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedure (SOP), caused an outbreak, with over 100 testing positive.

“All workers have been tested in the factory itself,” said Lee, the minister in charge of Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC), on Tuesday (July 6).

He added that the factory had been ordered to close from July 5 to 18.

“The whole factory area and premises have also been placed under lockdown.”

Lee again reminded industries that have been allowed to operate during MCO to comply with SOP guidelines.

The relevant authorities have also been requested to carry out more regular checks on SOP compliance in such industries.

On another note, vaccination centres for industries (PPVIN) have been set up in Kuala Baram areas.

“The Miri Port PPVIN has been approved and acts as a one-stop PPV for industries and workers.  The Miri Port PPVIN will be operational starting July 8.

“Another PPVIN will be set up in the Kuala Baram Industrial Park.

“The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF)   team from Kuching has inspected the premises and a revised layout has already been submitted.”

Lee urged CITF to expedite approval and hoped that it could begin operations soon.
