Estate managers attend environmental awareness programme

KUCHING: The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) and Linau Mewah Sdn Bhd jointly held an environmental awareness programme in Linau Mewah Estate, Miri on July 11.

The programme aimed at raising awareness about the latest environmental rules, regulations and issues as well as to strengthen collaboration between government agencies and the private sector in fostering environmental consciousness.

Speakers were from the Department of Environment gave talks on topics such as “Natural Resources and Environmental (Audit) Rules, 2008 and its Guidelines,” “Management of Scheduled Waste,” “EIA Approval Conditions on Agriculture Projects,” and a briefing on Premier of Sarawak Environmental Award (PSEA).

The programme was attended by 46 officials from 12 different Linau Mewah Sdn Bhd estates.

Linau Mewah Sdn Bhd won the Gold Award at the 11th Premier of Sarawak Environmental Award (PSEA) 2021/2022.

“Linau Mewah Sdn Bhd is committed to environmental leadership in all of its operations,” said the HR & Admin manager cum Sustainability manager, Roland Tieh, in his opening remarks.

Wong Yiik Mee, senior Environmental Control officer from NREB Headquarters, highlighted the importance of collaboration between government agencies and the private sector in enhancing environmental quality.

She encouraged more industries to participate in environmental efforts and demonstrate commitment to environmental sustainability.
