SERIAN: An assemblyman has appealed for cooperation from all sectors to curb drug abuse.

The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) reported on Sunday (Feb 20) that Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Illus viewed such cooperation as important to ensure the people take ongoing anti-drug efforts seriously.

“This is to ensure we play our part to can help the government achieve the goal of ‘Controlled Substances 2025’,” he said when officiating at the Anti-Drug Squad programme at the Masjid Darul Ehsan Hall, Taman Anggerik Indah Serian last Saturday (Feb 19).

The Anti-Drug Squad programme held in conjunction with the 2022 National Anti-Drug Day targets individuals, families and communities in addressing the issue of drug abuse and addiction, and also seeks to break the drug-supply and demand chain.

The National Anti-Drug Day this year is themed ‘Prevention is Better’, and aims to protect Malaysians from the threat of drugs. The National Anti-Drug Day is celebrated annually on Feb 19.

John said Malaysian families acted as ‘frontliners’ and key agents to help the government break the drug supply and demand chain of drugs.
