BETONG: Betong Food and Art Festival (BeFA Fest) 2023, scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 2, promises a variety of exciting programmes, including the Sarawak Merdeka Adventure Convoy.
Christina Peter, the coordinator of BeFA Fest 2023, said that on the same dates, the Merdeka Sarawak Adventure Convoy will make a stop in Betong Division.
“On June 28 (Wednesday), the convoy is expected to arrive in Saratok. Then, on June 30 (Friday), they will proceed to Kabong, Pusa, Debak, Spaoh, and Betong. Finally, on the main day of July 2 (Sunday), they will depart for Sri Aman,” said Christina.
“On June 30, there will be special appearances by local artists Jeff Dom, Melissa Francis, and Hairee Francis. On July 1, Donny Lang and Josephine Jalin will grace the stage, followed by Linda and Rickie Andrewson on July 2,” she added in a press release recently.
Elaborating on the programme, the first day of BeFA Fest 2023 will begin with an opening ceremony and colouring competition. On the second day, participants could join in the Sarawak X-tive Family Fun Run, Aerodancethon, Ping Pong, and Sepak Takraw.
Additionally, there was a handicraft competition and a creative ethnic medley dance.
Throughout the three-day event, visitors could also enjoy a digital exhibition showcasing 60 years of Sarawak’s history, as well as indulge in food, drinks, handicrafts, various products, and folk performances.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, who is also the Layar Assemblyman, praised BeFA Fest as an initiative to showcase the cultural diversity and unique culinary traditions of the Betong District.
The festival, themed “Food and Cultural Identity of the Nation,” is jointly organised by the Betong District Office, Gerempung Tuai Rumah (GTR) Layar, and Polytechnic Metro Betong Sarawak (PMBS).
