‘Fast and Furious’ drive ends with 5 summonses, vehicle seized

KUCHING: A driver’s thrill-seeking antics took a perilous turn when he decided to film himself speeding down the Pan Borneo Highway in his Toyota Hilux last month.

However, his daredevil stunt did not go unnoticed, earning him not just five traffic summonses but also the confiscation of his vehicle by the police.

The incident went viral on social media after a 1.47-minute video clip was uploaded on social media.

In the clip, it depicted the driver navigating his pick-up truck at breakneck speeds. Since its upload, the video has amassed over 748,000 views, 3,700 likes and 4,500 shares.

According to the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, it had received a complaint on the viral video on Monday (Apr 1).

The Kuching Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division managed to locate and summon the driver for investigation.

Yesterday (Apr 3), the driver appeared at the traffic police office to own up to his action.

Admitting his wrongdoing, the driver acknowledged his reckless driving which flouted traffic regulations.

Police issued five summonses against him for various traffic offenses, and impounded his vehicle under Section 60(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, pending further action by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
