KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) has paid tribute to its chairman, Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor, describing him as a man who worked hard to understand the issues the agency faced, particularly those impacting the welfare of staff.

Megat Zaharuddin has stepped down from his position after having occupied the Felda hot seat for just eleven months. He took over from Tan Sri Sharir Samad who vacated the post on May 14, 2018.

In a statement today, Felda said: “From visits to a number of schemes throughout the country, many said Megat Zaharuddin was close to settlers and a leader who always prioritised their socio-economic welfare.

“Under his administration, a number of initiatives under the transformation plan were introduced and implemented to take Felda to new level of sustainability and greatness,” it added.

According to Felda, Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali will announce the new chairman, but stopped short of saying when this would happen.

It also quoted Megat Zaharuddin as saying that life’s journey contained stops and starts. “I am thinking what other plans Allah has for me,” he added.

He had in an internal memo to staff on Monday announced his plan to step down. His last day of service is June 30.

The government in April tabled a White Paper on Felda which has been facing difficult times. – Bernama
