LAWAS: A 53-year old woman was lucky to have escaped unscathed after the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) that she was driving suddenly caught fire at Siang Siang Bridge this morning.
The State Fire and Rescue Department in a statement, said the driver of the vehicle managed to escape before the fire started to engulf it.
A team from Lawas fire station was despatched to the scene after they received a distress call at 11.57 am pertaining to the incident.
Upon arrival, the firefighters found that the fire had already totally engulfed the vehicle, and they immediately performed extinguishing work.
After ensuring the area was safe for road users, the firefighters returned to their station.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
