KUCHING: A field hospital with a capacity of 86 beds will be set up at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Federal Deputy Minister of Health Lukanisman Awang Sauni said this is a short-term solution to overcome the issue of overcrowding at the hospital.

“This is among the approaches that we are taking for now that is the setting up of a field hospital for general ward and with the tender process to be carried out soon,” he said in a press conference after making an official visit to SGH here yesterday.

He added the temporary field hospital needed to be built immediately as SGH was the only regional hospital in Sarawak with all the specialties available there.

“Apart from that, the MOH is doing its very best possible to speed up the construction of some more government facilities.

“This includes the construction of the Petra Jaya Hospital and several other health clinics that have been completed soon and will start operating in the nearest time,” he said.
