KUCHING: The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and TVS have formed a strategic alliance to revolutionise the way creative ideas are pitched in Malaysia’s film industry, aiming for a more impactful and unified approach.

FINAS chief executive officer Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib stressed the crucial role of pitching creative ideas in the creation of outstanding content.

“Harnessing the rich cultural tapestry of Sarawak and Borneo, we envision transforming the entire creative industry into a unified powerhouse, becoming a beacon for quality content creation that transcends borders and captivates global audiences.”

During a courtesy visit to TVS today (Feb 20), Azmir expressed his desire to promote Sarawak as a tourism destination through film and television content, aligning with the goals of Visit Malaysia 2026.

He pointed out that in collaboration with TVS, they will present proposals to the Finance Ministry (MOF) and the Ministry of Economy, stressing the active engagement of both ministries in fostering the growth of the creative industry.

“And, of course, FINAS is not necessarily just about grants; we can also assist in providing facilities. Grants are one of the incentive components to inject into the industry.

“In terms of infrastructure, ensuring that staff and crew have the skills to be part of this creative industry is also crucial. All of this is important for the great development of the creative business.”

The courtesy visit included executive deputy chairman of Sarawak Media Group (SMG) and TVS CEO Kushairi Abang, along with other distinguished guests.
