MIRI: Twenty-three persons were made homeless when an afternoon fire gutted six units of a quadruplex flat in Lorong 3 Permyjaya here on Sunday.

There were no reports of casualties or injuries arising from the incident.

A spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said, a distress call was received at 1.21 pm via MERS999 line.

The department promptly deployed firemen from Lutong and Lopeng stations to the location.

Upon arriving at the scene, the firemen found that the units were on fire and immediately began extinguishing works.

The firemen had to break through the ceiling of the third and fourth units to stop the fire from spreading further.
