Fire razes nine wooden vessels at jetty

BINTULU: A fire engulfed nine wooden vessels anchored at the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority’s (LKIM) jetty at Tanjung Manis.

Five of the vessels belonged to the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) while four were undergoing repairs at the jetty.

There were approximately 20 vessels at the jetty when the fire occurred.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), firefighters stationed at Tanjung Manis immediately responded to an emergency call at around 5.21 am.

The firefighters prevented the fire from spreading by 6.30 am. No casualties or fatalities were reported in the incident.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined and an assessment of the incurred losses is pending.
