SIBU: Firefighters here faced challenging conditions to arrive at a location of a factory quarters fire in Jalan Tanjung Kunyit, negotiating narrow roads amid heavy downpour.

Responding swiftly to the incident which occurred around 12.50am on Sunday (Feb 4), firefighters from Sibu fire station rushed to the scene which was 25 kilometres away.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) said when the firefighters arrived at the scene the blaze had already destroyed a ten-door non-permanent structure measuring 100 by 60 square metres.

“The ten-door non-permanent structure was 100 percent razed to the ground by the fire.

“Only later that the fire was brought under control at 1.38am,” the Bomba spokesman said in a statement on Sunday (Feb 4).

After ensuring the situation was under control, the operation concluded at 4.10 am.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
